Monroe County Emergency Services to Distribute Bottled Water on Saturday, Dec. 31: North Monroe Boil Water Advisory to Continue Through Weekend

Monroe County Emergency Services (MCES) will again be distributing bottled water from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow (Sat., Dec. 31) at the High Falls Fire Station at 3901 High Falls Road for North Monroe County residents affected by the ongoing water shortage.

The water will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis with one case available per family initially. As of day’s end, there is still plenty of water available for any households who are need of it.

This morning, the North Monroe County Water System was reconnected to Butts County’s water system, and Butts County is now providing water once again for the north end of the county. If the High Falls and Blount water tank levels stay elevated to their normal amounts and Butts County’s water tank levels also stay at their appropriate levels through the weekend, then Monroe County will begin flushing the north water system lines and submitting 24-hour bacteria tests early next week.

That means the Boil Water Advisory for all North Monroe County water system customers will remain in effect through the holiday weekend. In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, customers are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, or preparing food. The Boil Water Advisory does not apply to customers who already receive water from the City of Forsyth or customers on Monroe County’s South Water System.

Should the North Monroe County Water System again suffer a significant water level drop over the weekend, MCES will have its fire hoses once again ready to connect the county’s north system to the City of Forsyth water system, and North Monroe County Water System customers should not anticipate any interruption in service.
