PLAN FOR THE CHRISTMAS RUSH

A flood of garbage hits the county’s Recycling and Waste Collection Centers before and after Christmas. Abnormally high volumes of garbage and traffic in your Collection Centers stretch equipment and personnel to their limits and beyond.

What you can expect?

  • Periodic changes in the Centers and Landfill normal days and hours of operation.

  • Longer than normal lines at the containers. Please be patient and wait your turn.

  • Occasionally containers may be full when you arrive. Plan for this and be prepared to come back when space is available. It’s a good idea to call the Center before loading your vehicle.

  • An area in the Center will be designed for Christmas tree collection.

As normal, LARGE AMOUNTS of various types of material will be disposed of during the Holiday Season. For the convenience for all Monroe County Citizens to have the opportunity to utilize the Recycle Centers, take large bulky items and large amounts directly to the Monroe County Landfill on Highway 83 North, 3 miles from Forsyth.

What you can do?

  1. PLAN AHEAD. Stock up on trash bags. Allow time in your schedule for recycling and garbage disposal.

  1. Corrugated cardboard boxes – newspapers – magazines – catalogs – clean plastic jugs & bottles – clean aluminum & steel (tin) cans – clean glass bottles & jars.

  1. BAG IT & TIE IT. Bag all garbage, including gift-wrap, styrofoam, plastic & paper packing. Please do not bring your trash to a Center in a 55-gallon drum (Landfill much easier access), untied bags, cans without lids, or loose in cardboard boxes.

  1. HAUL IT. Secure all loads hauled in open bed trucks and trailers.
  • Arrive in time to get unloaded before closing time.
  • Please take extreme amounts of large bulky waste items to the County Landfill.

  1. Never put corrugated cardboard boxes into open top containers or trash compactors. Place them in the “Cardboard” container. Remove all packing materials, wrappings, and other waste from corrugated cardboard boxes. Cut, fold or otherwise flatten the boxes.

YOUR EFFORT TO RECYCLE MATERIAL SAVES LANDFILL SPACE AND HELPS TO CONTINUE AND PROMOTE OUR RECYCLE CENTERS AND PROGRAM.

Remember any load hauled without being properly secured is illegal and can result in a ticket and fine.
